A male aged 50 years presented with acute psoas bursitis due to previously unrecognized rheumatoid arthritis. A fluorine‐18 bone scan was helpful in establishing the presence of active arthritis of the hip. The radiological appearance of the hands resembled gout, but there was no supporting evidence for the presence of this disease.
