MR M. REZNIKOV (Bacteriologist, Division of Tuberculosis, Department of Health, Brisbane) outlined reasons for past reluctance to attribute retiological significance to atypical mycobacteria when they were isolated under conditions suggesting complicity in tuberculosis. Runyon's subdivision of atypical mycobacteria into groups was described and evaluated. The current composition of Runyon's groups was tabled, and the retiological significance now attributed to the various mycobacteria encountered in clinical material was indicated as follows:
