A study of 631 patients with leukæmia and allied disorders shows that those with acute leukæmia had a more frequent history of phenylbutazone ingestion than those with chronic leukæmias and allied disorders. Excluding those patients who received the drug for the first time within 12 months of diagnosis and those who had had an appreciable amount of radiotherapy, the difference between the two groups was significant at the 0·05 level. The possible implications of these findings are discussed, but no definite conclusions that phenylbutazone is leukæmogenic can be drawn.
