Eight cases of thoracic gunshot wounds are reviewed. Salient features were as follows: (i) Young adult males comprised the majority of cases; most entry wounds were anterior and left‐sided. (ii) Multiple organ damage due to missile deflection occurs in a substantial proportion of patients. (ii) In severely shocked patients, splenic, cardiac or diaphragmatic injuries require consideration.
