Over a six–year period, seven patients with hepatic amœbic abscess have been studied by serial liver scanning. This is the most valuable, simple diagnostic test available to demonstrate defects caused by amœbic abscesses. The scan demonstrates the site, size, number and progress of lesions. With careful techniques, including multiple views and interpretation in the clinical context, an accuracy rate in excess of 90% can be achieved.
