I hope that the Society of General Practitioners will develop into a strong opposition to the Establishment, without creating "anarchy". However, if the A.M.A. continues to reject all reasonable criticism and constructive proposals, as it has done so far, a split between specialists and general practitioners might be delayed, but must be Inevitable. As your Editorial of May 25, wisely stated: "It has been well said that the main thing we learn from history is that we do not learn from history ..." This, however, should apply not only to the opposition, but also to the Establishment, and it is time members of the Federal and State Councils started taking history lessons, and found out the results of stubborn rejection of political opposition. To this I might add: the A.M.A. can fool some of us some of the time, but it can't fool all of us all the time.
