aged 59 who had been thriCe under observation during a year. Complaining of dyspncea and cough he was found to have emphysema and improved under treatment. Some months later he had an exacerbation, his symptoms being worse in the morning, and on a third lamination in addition to dyspncea he had a quivering sensation in the thorax, tremulousness of the hands and psychic and motor disturbances, especially on waking and lasting during the morning hours. His appetite was good but he had not increased in weight. Much of his discomfort disappeared after a meal and so commonly he experienced hunger that he carried about a piece of bread. Occasionally the same symptoms occurred during the night and again he obtained immediate relief by eating something.
