It is probable that the first object was partly achieved, as the investigators must surely have been stimulated by the mass of facts and ideas presented; but it is doubtful whether much of the material is presented in a manner suitable for application in the clinic, and most clinicians would more likely be confused by its diversity and complexity. It will be some solace to the poor lagging clinician to discover that some of the "foremost investigators" were not entirely clear on the meaning and significance of papers by their colleagues, as indicated by the remarks of two moderators. The first (Cole, page 186) made the following comment: "After hearing the various papers today, I am reminded of the comments of one of our residents who recently told me that if I was not confused, it was just because I was not fully informed. As I have heard these learned discussions today, I find myself quite confused ..." The second (Bloch, page 232) remarked: "The discussions re-emphasize that these problems can be studied in a great number of ways. There are many answers. Some of the answers may even be correct, but which are the correct answers?"
