for one year in most cases, after which, if the condition remained controlled, the interval was lengthened or therapy was changed to the oral route. Of this group, 15 patients were alive without signs of recurrence at the time of assessment, but the follow-up in some cases had not been very long. Perhaps more striking were the results obtained by similar treatment in two small series, one of five patients with "prognostically poor renal carcinoma", the other of six patients, similarly classified, with a carcinoma of the large bowel. A point of some interest is that three of these patients--one with a renal carcinoma, two with mammary carcinoma-started their course of maintenance chemotherapy with thiotepa during pregnancy (two in the second and one in the third trimester), and all were delivered of normal healthy infants.
