This is one of the rare books which make valuable ana inter-reiatea contriou'j to both theory and practice. It presents a penetrating theoretical analysis of development of normal continence, the aetiology of enuresis, and the factors invo' in its treatment. The relevance of conditioning techniques and, in particular, the ' and-pad" method of treatment are considered in detail. There is also a lucid accoU11 ^ an excellent piece of research, which is remarkable for its equal competent laboratory, clinical and social fields. Particularly striking is the interplay bet^1 $ clinical trials and conditioning experiments with animals, hypotheses deriving j one field being tested in the other. J The book is intended for those with specialised knowledge and includes a thor?l review of the relevant literature. However, the author's clear and straightfo^ manner of writing makes it very readable, and it will certainly hold the intere5' anyone concerned with the problems of enuresis.
