I have used dosages of from 10 mg. three times a day to rarely more than 25 mg. four times a day, and am prepared to wait three to four weeks before abandoning the approach. I have had little trouble with side effects, which appear to be transient, and which mainly consist of dryness of the mouth and, in very few, a definite hypnotic effect. When good results are obtained, I maintain optimum dosage for about three months, tapering off watchfully over a similar period. I have come to expect changes of the order described above in a third to half of cases treated. A quarter show useful, but less marked, effects. The remainder show little or no change.
