THE first edition of this text appeared In 1950. The present edition will undoubtedly continue to fill the Important place which the earlier editions had established for themselves In the ophthalmic literature. Until quite recently, it was virtually the only reasonably comprehensive account of the physiological, and to some extent biochemical, basis of clinical ophthalmology. The account of mechanical aspects of the eye, the cornea and intraocular fluids Is particularly good, but the account of retinal physiology and visual neurology is not quite of the same high standard. Here and there the text shows signs of aging, but It still provides the aspiring ophthalmologist with a sound physiological basis for his speciality.
