by reserpine, cocaine and nicotine in elucidating the intracellular and intercellular disposition of nor-adrenaline. Progress here is exemplified by the positive nature of the relevant chapter headings, "Substances which Release Noradrenaline" and "Substances which Prevent the Uptake of Noradrenaline". Burn prepares the reader in the last three chapters for his more contentious hypothesis that acetylcholine is an important factor in the release of noradrenaline. One might take issue with Burn on much of the evidence presented in support of the hypothesis; nevertheless, criticism is outweighed by the thought-provoking and stimulating way in which the argument is presented. The book will prove an extremely useful giude to reading in autonomic pharmacology for the serious student, as well as for the ancillary reader and teacher of this complex subject.
