BETWEBN 1930 and 1962, 49 operations were performed among 175 hremophiliacs with three deaths. The deaths were not due to post-operative hremorrhage, even though concentrated sources of coagulation factors were not used. The wide range of operations is reviewed with the indications used and complications experienced. The inability of plasma to supply adequate cover for major procedures-and thus the vital necessity to use concentrates-is emphasized. Scrupulous hremostasis contributes probably as much to success. The role and responsibilities of the rest of the team -the physician, the hrematologist, the anresthetist and the resident medical and nursing staff-are outlined.
