SIR: The article "Pulmonary Hydatid Disease" (MED. J. Atrar., March 11, 1961) and the correspondence arising from It cause the following reflections. Diagnosis Is difficult in the absence of serious complications or catastrophes, and laboratory tests quite uncertain. Hence the incidence In the community must be very difficult to determine, and probably can only be determined by large series of unselected postmortem examinations. Unfortunately these are seldom performed In any numbers In rural areas.
