It is statedthat Janewas admitted, in the first instance, without justification; largely, it appears,as the result of the machinationsof a malevolentmotherwho herself clearly suffered from a personality disorder of near psychotic proportions. There can be no doubt, however, that Janeherself was grossly disturbed, and that her admission, though possiblymisguided,was justified asan attemptto rectify this. Be that as It may, what subsequentlytranspiredprovides a grim Illustratton, not only of man's inhumanity to man, but of the fact that bad treatmentand lack of psychological understandingoften make the patient worse.
