Moreover, much is now being done in the field of rehabilitation which was precededby only minimal survey, providing learning (of the size and ramificationsof the problem) by doing (what proved to be possible with the best use of all available facilities); the resultingachievementsand knowledgemight not have been won had the communitiesconcernedwaited for somegrand survey to be made. Certainly wisdom must prevail, and planning precedeaction, but practical limitations usually reduce a wished-for censusto the dimensionsof a representative sample. Coordination and integration are well discussed. The readeris remindedthat it is for the patient that rehabilitation has arisen, and that he is a whole man, a unique combinationof mind, body and spirit. The value of the active promotion of mutual understanding amongstthe many groups of the community concernedill rehabilitation, and the special need for a central information centre for a community, are rightly stressed.
