Becauseof the wide individual differencesin susceptibility to noise, industrial deafness must be attacked through hearing conservation rather than through noise measurement-thelatter being used to decide where a hearing conservationprogrammeis necessaryor desirable.The emphasis is on this most important aspect of the need for and implementationof a hearing conservationprogramme; this is treated in detail.
