THE GROWING CHILD. GASTRO-ENTEROLOGY. thorax, as well as a description of the diseasesaffecting this section of the body. Every operation likely to be employed In treatment is discussed, particular reference being made to post-operativecare. There is also a chapter on ansest.hesia.Written as it Is for nurses,in some respects the scopeof the book may be too wide; a full descriptionof the physical examinationof the chest including the various signs that may be elicited seemsunnecessary. A welcomeinclusion is the chapteron breathingexercises; this chapter indeed might with advantage have been expandedto include a descriptionof post-operativeposturing and exercisesfor patientswho have been submittedto major operationssuch as thoracoplasty. At the end of the book is a series of reproductionsof skiagrams showing the appearancesof various pulmonary diseases. The quality of the reproductions is reasonably good and a small diagrammaticsketch beneatheach reproduction indicating the radiographicappearancesis a useful feature, The book on the whole is well written. We have a violent prejudice against endowing the human species with a multiplicity of chests, as is suggestedby the use of such terms as "right chest", "left upper chest" and "right lateral chest". An adequateindex is provided. The handbooksupplies a need and should be read by all nursesengagedin attendingpatientssuffering from diseases of the chest.
