The primary vectors of New Guinea and the islands are the races of Anopheles punctulatus, the vector of northeastern Queensland is Anopheles punctulatu's tarauti, while Anopheles annulipes is the presumptive vector of sporadic malaria in the south, and the vectors of the Northern Territory are still undetermined. It is considered that there is no reason to expect any change in the distribution and amount of malaria on the mainland of Australia, unless a new vector is introduced. The possibility that Anopheles punctulatus punctulatus might be transported from the islands into the tropical parts of the mainland is a danger to be guarded against.
