Influence of Potassium Chloride on the Action of Intraspinal Ansesthetics. By H. Hilarowicz and S. Mieczyslaw (Zeit. fur die ges. exp. Mediz., 1929, 64, 77*2).?Great increase in anaesthetic effect of novocaine in spinal anaesthesia resulted from the addition of potassium chloride. Local application of potassium chloride in 1 per cent solution to the region of the fourth ventricle produced a marked rise in blood-pressure, a slowing of the pulse, an increase in amplitude of the heart-beat, greater regularity of respiration, and a depressant action on the skeletal nervous system. The authors conclude that the addition of potassium chloride to novocaine in the production of spinal anaesthesia is of advantage in increasing the anaesthetic action and preventing untoward secondary disturbances, e.g., fall of blood-pressure. ?Noah Morris.
