below, by means of packing the cervix with gauze or insertion of bougies, etc., or (b) by Cresarean section. After consideration, I decided to adopt the latter method, for the following reasons: (i.) The former methods might not be successful, because of the rigidity of the cervix. (ii.) If these methods failed, there would be, on account of the difficulty of sterilizing the vaginal tract and maintaining it in a sterile condition, the added risk of Introducing dangerous micro-organisms into a uterus already containing a dead fretus and thus bringing about a very formidable condition.
