Avertin it is the nearest approach to ideal anaesthesia. In a series of 592 abdominal sections adequate relaxation was obtained in 90 per cent of cases without the addition of ether. After-effects such as nausea, vomiting and respiratory complications were notably rare. Induction even without premedication is quiet, pleasant and rapid.
