The article aims to find answers to questions about the process of forming the high-power Russian artillery. The conclusions from the analysis of the development process of the Russian artillery included in the work may justify the statement that at the threshold of the 21st century, the return to the high-power artillery may be a harbinger of changes in the Russian approach to ways of performing tasks as part of groupings fighting in depth.
