A collective work titled Muzea uczelniane.Katalog [High School Museums. Catalogue] is a comprehensive, well illustrated book, whose proportions betweena written word and an image are perfectly balanced. Thepublication was prepared by the Association of High SchoolMuseums, which at present counts over 20 members. Thereare more than 50 museums that operate within high schoolsin Poland and majority of them have been included in thecatalogue. The knowledge about this truly valuable branchof Polish museology has not been promoted enough, thusthe publication admirably fills this gap. Amassed by highschools rich collections of various kind: zoological, mineralogical, artistic or collections of scientific instruments anddocuments about history of a particular school are now– thanks to this publication – more accessible to generalpublic. The book is organised in a very clear manner, orderedalphabetically by towns and cities, which togetherwith its good quality photographs and professionally writtendescriptions make it a precious resource for the scholarsand a treat for all who appreciate well edited publications.Undoubtedly, it is going to be a milestone in researchon the history of Polish science, high school museology;and might as well inspire a return of the idea to create theNational Museum of Natural History, which was plannedback in 1930s.
