The article describes the so-called requisitioncampaign carried out in Vilnius city and region and Kaunas,Lithuania, the aim of which was to recover the cultural heritagewhich was supposed to stay abroad as a result of the change ofborders after World War II for the Polish State and its citizensPeople connected with the Cultural Department establishedby the Polish Committee of National Liberation in1944 at the Office of the Chief Plenipotentiary for Evacuationin the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic. The CulturalDepartment carried out this activity under the Agreementbetween the Polish Committee of National Liberation andthe Government of the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republicregarding the evacuation of Polish citizens from SovietLithuania and Lithuanian citizens from Poland concerningthe mutual repatriation of peoples.The article aims to recall the private collections and mostimportant cultural institutions in Vilnius from the period before1939 which failed to be transported from Vilnius toPoland, despite the great efforts of many people. However,regardless of the result, the actions described and thosewho conducted them deserve to be recalled and mentionedin the subject-matter literature
