By means of columnar and thin-layer chromatography, the presence of carotenoids in Lichens (2 species), Sphagnaceae (l species), Lycopodiaceae (l species) and in 23 species of the higher plants from Abisko National Park (Swedish Lapland) was studied. 34 carotenoids were identified and total content ranged from 0.05 mg/g to 0.85 mg/g dry mass
