
Fungi causing root canker in Saintpaulia ionantha Wendl.

Among the fungi isolated from Saintpaulia ionantha Wendl. specimens dying from root canker, the most numerous were: Fusarium oxysporum, F. solani, Botrytis cinerea, Cylindrocarpon obtusisporrum, C. didimum, and Gliocladium roseum. Fusarium oxysporum and F. solani were recognized to be very damaging to the plant, striking the root systems of seeldings and older plants as well. Botrytis cinerea caused damage to roots and upper parts of the plant. Gliocladium roseum, which has also proved to be a mycoparasite of Cylindrocarpon didimum, exhibited only slight pathogenic qualities in relation to the seedlings root system
