Have been determined main technical characteristics and elemental compositions of coal samples from Mongolian coal deposits named Baganuur and Shivee-Ovoo. Activated carbon sorbents have been obtained from these oxidized brown coals and determined their technical and sorption characteristics. By the method derivatography studied the process of carbonization of coal source. By IR spectroscopy investigated the functional surface of the samples of raw coal and sorbents, performed their quantification. Using electron microscopy confirmed the presence of the porous structure of sorbents.
