U raduje prezentiran teorijsko-metodološki koncept istraživanjageografskoga prostora koji podrazumijeva interdisciplinarnipristup i sveobuhvatnost istraživanja interaktivno i funkcionalnopovezane životne sredine. Cilj istraživanja strategijske geografijejest znanstvena spoznaja i vrednovanje uloge geografskihčimbenika u modificiranju prostorno-funkcionalne dinamike.Njezino izdvajanje kao posebne znanstvene poddiscipline rezultatje unutrašnjeg objekta istraživanja temeljenog na raščlambi iizdvajanju dominantnih geografskih značajki bitnih sa stajalištaanalize i sintetske prosudbe geografskih izvora potencijalnenacionalne snage/moći. Geografski prostor, odnosno geografskičimbenici, procesi, veze i odnosi kao potencijalni izvorikomparativnih prednosti u procesu definiranja nacionalnihinteresa te oblikovanju i provedbi nacionalnih strategijapredstavljaju objekt istraživanja strategijske geografije. Težišniistraživački postupak strategijske geografije usmjeren je nageografske i resursne prednosti nacionalnoga prostora te ljudskipotencijal u međunarodnom kontekstu. The purpose of this paper is to determine the subject of study ofstrategic geography as a geographic subdiscipline and to defineits theoretical concept within the context of the interdisciplinaryfield of geography. The emphasis is placed on defining thesignificance of geographical space in the function of the synergyof national power as well as on formulating national interestsand their strategic operationalization in the process of achievingnational goals in an international environment. The paperpresents a theoretical and methodological concept of studyinggeographical space which implies an interdisciplinary approachand comprehensiveness of the study of an interactively andfunctionally interconnected living environment. The aim of thestudy of strategic geography is scientific knowledge and anevaluation of the role of geographic factors in the modificationof spatial and functional dynamics. Its singling out as a separatescientific subdiscipline is the result of an internal subject of studybased on the analysis and singling out of dominant geographiccharacteristics relevant from the point of view of the analysis andsynthetic judgement of the geographical sources of potentialnational power. Geographical space, i.e. geographic factors, processes, connections and relations as potential sources ofcomparative advantages in the process of defining nationalinterests, and in the formulation and implementation of nationalstrategies, represent strategic geography\u27s subject of study. Themost important study procedure of strategic geography isdirected at geographic and resource advantages of nationalspace and human potential in the international context
