
Online Activities and Risk Behaviors among Adolescents in the Virtual Environment

Ovisnost o internetu i elektroničko nasilje među mladima pojavesu koje, zbog razvoja tehnologije i široke dostupnosti interneta,bilježe porast. Istraživanje je provedeno s adolescentima (N =352) u 9 slučajno odabranih srednjih škola u Republici Hrvatskoj,kako bi se ispitali odnosi između načina upotrebe interneta irizičnih online ponašanja mladih. Upotrijebljeni su standardiziranimjerni instrumenti: Test ovisnosti o internetu (Young, 1998) iUpitnik o doživljavanju i činjenju elektroničkoga nasilja (Del Rey isur., 2015) te pitanja o sociodemografskim obilježjima ispitanikai online aktivnostima sudionika. Rezultati pokazuju da se kod36,2% sudionika javljaju znakovi ovisnosti o internetu, dok 50,7%učenika sudjeluje u raznim pojavnim oblicima elektroničkoganasilja. Količina vremena provedenog na internetu u slanjuinstant poruka, gledanju filmova/videa, slušanju glazbe i igranjuonline igara korelira s ovisnosti o internetu i sa sudjelovanjem uvirtualnom nasilju među mladima. Istraživanje je potvrdilopretpostavke teorije rutinskih aktivnosti, a rezultati upućuju na toda učenici koji provode elektroničko nasilje pokazuju tendencijurizičnoga ponašanja i u ostalim online aktivnostima. U radu jepredstavljen odnos između razine ovisnosti o internetu iuključenosti u činjenje i doživljavanje elektroničkoga nasilja te sunavedene smjernice za buduća istraživanja na ovom području.Internet addiction and cyberbullying among youth arephenomena that show a significant increase owing to thedevelopment of technology and the wide accessibility of theInternet. Research was conducted among adolescents (N =352) in 9 randomly selected high schools in Croatia, with theaim of investigating the relationship between habitualInternet use and online risk behaviors among adolescents.The standardized measuring instruments used in the researchwere the Internet addiction test (Young, 1998) and TheEuropean Cyberbullying Intervention Project Questionnaire(Del Rey et al., 2015) and questions about sociodemographiccharacteristics of respondents and onlineactivities. The results show that 36.2% of the participantsexhibit different symptoms of Internet addiction, while 50.7%of them partake in various forms of cyberbullying.Furthermore, it is established that the amount of time spenton the Internet on instant messaging, watchingmovies/videos, listening to music and playing online gamescorrelates both with Internet addiction and with participatingin cyberbullying among young people. The researchconfirmed the assumptions of the theory of routine activitiesand the results indicate that perpetrators of cyberbullyingshow a tendency to risky behavior also in other onlineactivities. The paper presents the relationship between thelevel of Internet addiction and experience of cyberbullyingand provides guidelines for future research in this area
