This building was built in 1890 and designed by Thomas Mahoney, who, with his father William, was also responsible for the Auckland City Art Gallery. It was occupied until the early 1970’s by several government departments in addition to the Customs Department and this explains the cellular construction. There are three reasonably distinct areas on each floor.
