In the articke there is investigated the questions about the norm and normalization in the framework of onomastics, as one of the lexico-semantic linguistic layers, which are differ from each other. It is noted that the norm is such an option that all the rules of the language are observed. In other words, the norm arises on the basis of variability and at the same time prevents variability in the language. But this feature of the norm is not absolute. Because sometimes several variants of the same language unit can be used as the norm in certain situations. This property is most common on onomastic units.
