The names of gems as components of oikonyms in the east Slavic languages

Systematization of oikonyms is carried out on the different descriptions and is of great interest for linguists on general linguistic, epochal, regional and other characteristics. The article deals with the systematization and analysis of the numerous oikonyms the components of which are the names of gems on the material of the Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian languages. The comparative research is carried out on the concrete groups including subgroups according to the character and peculiarities of the object oikonyms that got their names from the nearby deposit: the first settlers’ personal names and landowners’ patronymics. The special attention is given to the false etimology of oikonyms (Агатівка — from the name Agata (Agatha); Жемчуг (in Buryat. Жэмhэг) – formed from the two words “жэмhэг” (the best pieces of meat) or “жэмэс/жэмэсей” (berry/berry places).
