Idiomatic expressions may be regarded as a part of daily speech. They are the basis of any language and they are also considered the most problematic part for handling with. The purpose of this article is to clarify the main reasons why idiomatic expressions make such a complex issue for the translators. Translation is generally not an easy task, especially when translating idiomatic expressions makes it a more difficult task and also if the translators are not aware of the cultural differences between the target and source languages. They must recognize idiomatic expressions and distinguish them from the non-idiomatic expressions. Three strategies have been proposed to overcome this problem; it allows the translators to accept what they see best in the text under translation. But, emphasis is given to the cultural substitution where meaning can be given priority over a form in favor of preserving cultural flavor of a target language.
