Using  Byerly's  method  as modified   by  Hodgson and Milne  the direotion of faulting in the case of the Great Assam Earthquake of August 1950 has been  calculated . The results show that the  displacement  took plaoe in a normal fault striking East, West and dipping to the North at an angle of 75°, the hanging  wall side moving down and slightly West with respect to the  footwall side.
