An all time record flood occurred in the Yamuna river in September 1978 in Delhi surpassing the previous major floods of 1924. 1947 and 1976. This record flood caused colossal loss to life and property.   The present study deals with a detailed analysis of rainfall resulting in the floods and the associated synoptic situations.
