Day to day zonal index between 30-50 deg. N has been computed and discussed in relation to the break monsoon conditions. Relation between the mean zonal index and general distribution of the precipitation in the central parts of the country, has been investigated. Distortion in the 500 mb flow pattern across Tibet due to the interaction between westerly trough and monsoon Circulation has also been discussed.
