Unprecedented floods occurred in the rivers Baitarani and Brahmani in the third week of August 1975. Except river Mahanadi, all major Orissa rivers were in spate due to the passage of two depressions through Orissa in quick succession. The rainfall in the latter case was very much accentuated by the trough and micro low pressure cell associated with the main system.
