The paper discussed  with the aid of diagrams the variability of the upper winds at 12 rawin stations in India based on monthly normals computed from daily observational data. The monsoon and winter circulation are characterized  distinct patterns of upper wind variability with characteristic transitional patterng in May/June and September/October.
