This essay is a synthesis of our reflection on the values of modernity, based on the trilogy of science/technology, freedom/equality and progress, with the underlying principle of valuing the earthly world, and on how these axioms are called into question by postmodernism, by bringing to the fore new concerns about the environment, justice and the right to difference.
