Considering research as intervention and recognizing the importance of investing in professionalfamilyrelationship in the context of assistance in eating disorders, we question the notion ofpathogenic family and its deleterious effects in this relationship. This study aims to describe andanalyze the appreciative meanings produced about professional-patient relationship by analyzinginterviews with family members of people with eating disorders in outpatient care. A total of 1 0families were included in the study. The construction of the interview script was inspired by thesocial constructionist approach of Appreciative Inquiry. The analysis highlighted the meaningsand positioning games produced by the questioning of knowledge and decision-making hierarchybetween professional and family, the questioning of affective neutrality in this relationship, theimportance of clear information given by professional and the possibility of a space for thefamilies to be listen. The implication for construction of these directions was highlighted
