The paper investigates the relationship between the population’s trust in the institutions of state power and social cohesion in the Republic of Moldova in the context of COVID-19. The growing number of cases of illness and death is having a negative effect on the level of confidence in the authorities’ ability to cope with this crisis. Given the scale of the pandemic, the effectiveness of anti-covid measures is based on voluntary compliance by the people, as governments cannot coercively enforce them. The success of governments in the fight against the pandemic depends not least on their legitimacy, on the level of trust they have from the people.
