An Overview of Production-oriented Approach

Production-Oriented Approach is a new language teaching approach that integrates strength of Chinese traditional instructional approaches and Western pedagogy, aiming to tackle problems of input-output separation in language teaching in Chinese universities. More than five years since this approach has been published and many Chinese scholars have applied POA to classroom practice. This paper introduces basic concepts of POA approach, and then make a literature review on its application form, theoretical system, teaching procedures and effectiveness. Finally, three aspects that need further explored in the future are introduced.
