The Yorkshire Antiquarian Club was formed in York in 1849. Betweenthat date and 1855 club members undertook a series of excavations on Bronze Age and IronAge funerary monuments in various parts of the East and North Ridings of Yorkshire. Thispaper explores the origins, activities and eventual demise of the club, and seeks toplace it within its contemporary archaeological context
