The article examines the issues of legal regulation of municipal elections in the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation, draws attention to various types of electoral systems and methods of nominating candidates for deputies of representative bodies of local self-government. The author proposes directions for improving the Belarusian legislation on the issues under study.
