The Institute of Ecology and Geography, responsible for the creation and maintenance of the Natural Protected State Areas (NPSA) Cadastre database included in the NPSA Fund, between years 2015–2021), conducted complex scientific research, generalized and made the ecological passports of 312 objects and complexes from the NPSA Fund, which resides in the accumulation of data on their current state, valuable elements, the quality of the environmental components in their territory, with a view to the conservation of biological diversity and the sustainable exploitation of natural resources. It has been established that the majority of NPSA corresponds to the category of protected area (scientific reserve, natural monument, natural reservation etc.) and in general the protection regime is respected. The ecological status of the environmental components is better in NPSA located in the forest fund; in other categories of areas the ecological status is satisfactory. For the extension of the NPSA Fund, 10 new representative areas with a special natural and ecological potential, with a total area of approx. 1 400 ha, were proposed to the Ministry of Environment, to the Environment Agency for their evaluation in order to include them in the Annexes of Law no. 1538/98.
