This paper deals with the issue of feeding soldiers in field and combat conditions. It presents a brief overview of the history of this form of food with emphasis on the use of canned food. It characterizes a long-used provision intended for all-day individual catering for soldiers of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic "PODAP". It points to the current demand for modernization of this form of catering. It presents the views and practice experiences of professional soldiers with the use of "PODAP" obtained from empirical research, recapitulates the results of research and formulates conclusions and recommendations for theory as well as for practice. The paper is the result of the solution of the study "Modernization of the emergency dose of food for members of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic" solved at the Department of Logistics of the Armed Forces Academy in Liptovský Mikuláš.
