This article questions Nicolas Bouvier’s photography during his travels and the way in which images created during this time suggest travel as a state of being. Taking pictures as a means of notetaking, Bouvier records his perceptions and findings through the medium of photography. Within photographic motifs referring to the experience of travel (roads, the taking of close-up details, the lack of concern for technique), the sense of movement can be seen, as well as the subjectivity of the writer-traveller.
