Histoire du Portugal bringing together the writings of Osario and Castanheda, was composed by Pastor Simon Goulart in 1581. The work relates the history of the discoveries and conquests undertaken by the Portuguese. Goulart strongly guides the reception of these texts, delivers content with a strongly didactic tone and presents these writings as sources of geographical, ethnographic, historical, political and religious knowledge about the distant countries and peoples visited. It also offers moral and religious teaching on how to conduct oneself in world affairs.
